54: Wicker Roof

Posted by Jonti Bloom on July 31, 2007

Glad to be leaving Spain behind, though worried about Carston’s friend. Do you recall Theroux ever putting himself in this much jeopardy? Thought not…

The Outlaw

Posted by Dawn Jones on July 31, 2007

The outlaw

I am Dawn Siobhan Jones, 27, an outlaw from Coventry. But I’ll be a good one, a Robin Hood type figure. I’ll give lots to the poor.

This very morning I bought a homeless woman a large bouquet of flowers.

Love & light,
Dawn x

Hidey Low

Posted by Ian Jones on July 31, 2007

Camouflage

I do not like hiding.

I liked it better when we were on a quest. It’s better to be going at something rather than from it. Best of all is to be in your own room, doing and making, at your own pace. But those days are gone.

I feel a bit twitchy and we’ve got no pop to settle my nerves.

53: ‘King Prawn of Alicante’

Posted by Jonti Bloom on July 30, 2007

When I first started out as a documentary film maker I made a list of things I would never do even for a great story:
1. Put the lives of my immediate family in danger
2. The human trafficking of children
3. Have sex with a woman who marks less than 4/10
4. Black up in inner city areas
5. Sleep rough
6. Eat directly from a tin.
Looks like I’m going to have to revise the last two.

Spiritual guidance

Posted by Dawn Jones on July 30, 2007

Camping out with Carston

Tonight I tilt my head toward the blanket sky of night & wish upon a star as countless others have done before me. I throw out pleas for guidance to the cosmos. Spiritual guidance not geographical - I know we’re in Spain, I can tell by the onions.

Ians bandages

I put a bit of yoghurt on my wound and that was quite soothing and I don’t think it needs stitches as the cardi took most of the impact.

Can someone remind me what happened to the documentary film maker at the end of
Natural Born Killers?

On the run

Posted by Ian Jones on July 29, 2007

The Man Who Brought Me Up always told me that, if I ever came under fire, I should run in a zig zag pattern if the assailant was directly behind or in front of me.

It always worked versus cricket balls, snowballs, meatballs, spitballs, rocks, etc, and today it might well have saved my life.

I miss him.

Of course, this tactic is impractical in most turn-based games, where the assailant is only able to target you at either the start or end of your trajectory. You’re much better off finding some cover.

Boat/Bullets

Carstons knife

Carston has a knife with a pig on it. When he first landed in Spain he only
ate things he killed under his own steam, like dogs and seagulls and once a
horse when he was desperate. This is why he values luxury now, he says.

50: It’s like talking to myself

Posted by Jonti Bloom on July 27, 2007

I slip into a mockney accent whenever I talk to Carston. Saying ‘geezer’ occasionally is acceptable but he looked at me strange when I suggested we head down to the ‘rubber dub dub’.

Spot the difference

Dawn and her new brother Carston

A lover (all scented candles and knowing looks) once bought me a half coin necklace, keeping the other half for himself.

He said it was because we were like two halves of a whole. I thought this ridiculous as he made my gums bleed. But a gift’s a gift, so I kept schtumm.

Now I’ve met Carston I truly understand how similar two people can be. He’s absolutely fascinating.

Little luxuries

Posted by Ian Jones on July 27, 2007

Carston's lobster

I’ve never been into luxuries except at Christmas.

Carston likes treating people. A little dirty lady was begging on the beach and he gave her 20 Euros and a sun hat and some gum.

Later, I didn’t fancy a lobster, but I had three tiramisus.
