Long car journeys can play merry havoc with your skin. My handy hints are to limit the use of air conditioning, drink lots of water and smear tapas on your face - avoiding brie/anything fish based (I learnt that the hard way). Drive safe now.

A new day, a new director and a new sibling.

It’s not going to be easy to fill Jonti’s shoes - he’s a 7 and I’m a 10 - but a challenge is a challenge and I’m the man to take it on.

Jonti’s gone and it seems a bit quiet.

That day when he put the camera down was good fun, and he only sneered twice. I think his job was quite hard, with all the heavy lifting and the pointing and the ensuring Truth.

He never paid me the 4 Euros he owed me from when he bet my tin wouldn’t have stuff in but it did.

Many people ask me how I feel about Jonti leaving - I simply reply “Keep your nose out. Mind your business. Shut your mouth or I’ll shut it for you”.

My reply is thus because I don’t want to encourage speculation as to what went on between us in the biblical sense. I will - under duress - go as far as to say his impartiality was threatened. By his partiality to me.

I thought we’d had it all out over a sit-down chicken lunch in Reims but in recent weeks his amorous advances returned with gusto & so had to leave. I blame the heat.

Whenever I have to break some heavy news an inane grin creeps onto my face.

‘Becky, Grandpa’s dead.’

Inane grin.

‘Sorry babe, my hectic schedule means I can no longer give this relationship the time it deserves.’

Inane grin.

‘Mrs Weingarten, we accidentally knocked over your antique cabinet while removing our lighting rig from your living room.’

Inane grin.

This grin tends to stop the recipients of the news from taking it seriously.
I’m praying I can keep it at bay tonight.

I had a prophetic dream last night. Something fell off the car like the mirror or one of the headlights.

I received a rather surprising phone call this morning.

Too distracted to blog.

So it seems we’re happy families again and the terrible twosome has moved from the car into my hotel.

Though it’s important as a documentary filmmaker for me to have access to my subjects, I find Ian’s approach to breakfast buffet vulgar and I’d prefer it if Dawn didn’t pop up whenever I’m flirting with the hottie behind reception.

Whether to follow Dawn or Ian:
- with Dawn I’m more likely to end up dead in a gutter
- with Ian I’m more likely to get drawn into a tawdry world of role playing games & pizza which I fear I might enjoy
- I’m not sure I can face a long journey with Roy
- I’m not sure I can face a considerably longer journey with Dawn
- there are other parts of Europe I’d still like to see
- I miss my mum’s cooking (& laundry) services

Who’s Roy? The plot thickens.

Dawn thinks she’s being followed. I said “Hello, what do you think I’ve been doing here all this time”.

Not funny apparently.

I’ve been forcedly removed from the Il Duomo. The deafening tick of my biological clock was putting penitence of the rosary.

Buying birthday presents for women is always a toughy. In the end I decided that the best present for Dawn was to allow her to cut the scene of her choice from my documentary.

She went for the one where she was using Jean Jamboneau’s bedroom as a toilet.

It’ll just have to go in the DVD extras.

This is genuine. Not one of these fake scenes from those lightweight documentaries which are everywhere at the moment.
