final fanfare’s closing notes hang heavy in the air, the performer rides the well deserved wave of adoring applause and with a grin bids a fond “thank you, good night & god bless”.

54: Wicker Roof

Posted by Jonti Bloom on July 31, 2007

Glad to be leaving Spain behind, though worried about Carston’s friend. Do you recall Theroux ever putting himself in this much jeopardy? Thought not…

The Outlaw

Posted by Dawn Jones on July 31, 2007

The outlaw

I am Dawn Siobhan Jones, 27, an outlaw from Coventry. But I’ll be a good one, a Robin Hood type figure. I’ll give lots to the poor.

This very morning I bought a homeless woman a large bouquet of flowers.

Love & light,
Dawn x

Hidey Low

Posted by Ian Jones on July 31, 2007

Camouflage

I do not like hiding.

I liked it better when we were on a quest. It’s better to be going at something rather than from it. Best of all is to be in your own room, doing and making, at your own pace. But those days are gone.

I feel a bit twitchy and we’ve got no pop to settle my nerves.

53: ‘King Prawn of Alicante’

Posted by Jonti Bloom on July 30, 2007

When I first started out as a documentary film maker I made a list of things I would never do even for a great story:
1. Put the lives of my immediate family in danger
2. The human trafficking of children
3. Have sex with a woman who marks less than 4/10
4. Black up in inner city areas
5. Sleep rough
6. Eat directly from a tin.
Looks like I’m going to have to revise the last two.

Boat/Bullets

Carstons knife

Carston has a knife with a pig on it. When he first landed in Spain he only
ate things he killed under his own steam, like dogs and seagulls and once a
horse when he was desperate. This is why he values luxury now, he says.

49: Looking for Carston Whelk

Posted by Jonti Bloom on July 26, 2007

Dawn and Ian are on the hunt for their next sibling. I don’t know if it’s the balmy weather or the cocktails but I’m finding that Alicante is a genuinely friendly place.

Merry-go-Found

Posted by Ian Jones on July 21, 2007

Thumbs up - sort off…

It worked!

Snowy Saltamentes rang the radio lady and now we’re going to meet up! This is a big success for me as Communications Officer and I am VERY PROUD.

I have washed my hair with Dawn’s Timotei and it is ‘well fluffy’ according to Dawn.

She has just added that ‘I am hyper’.

Without relinquishing any authorial control, here Jonti Bloom gives someone else a chance to ask the questions.

If anyone knows where Snowy Saltamente is, write to Ann Bateson’s radio programme ‘Madrid Live’ at madridlive@wanadoo.es on Radio Círculo.

Raising them right

Posted by Dawn Jones on July 17, 2007

Dawn and Ian relaxing

They come into your life & your world turns upside down. Cue a million concerns - Am I good enough? Will I raise them right?

You grieve for the days of a full nights sleep & time for a pamper. But in the blink of a heavy lidded eye, they’re all grown up & garrotted on your apron strings.

Ian’s fast becoming a man & will one day want to stand on his own two feet. But not before he overcomes his clown neurosis so I think I will have a good while yet.

Love & Light,

Dawn x

Meet Head

Posted by Ian Jones on July 17, 2007

French man

I might not seem like one of those people people, but I’m trying.

It takes me a long time to meet people properly, but Dawn is forcing me out of myself a bit. She says that I just need to put my Meet Head on and take the people by the horns. It’s going ok.

I bumped into this same man later and he told me that he’d played Bilbo Baggins at school. In French!
